MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Provides high quality care giving services, education and referrals to children (0-3)
and families through classroom and home visiting services.
• Interacts with parents and supports their role as their children’s primary teachers.
• Mainatins accurate records and prepares reports at direction of program Leadership Team.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• CDA, AAS or higher in ECE, including 12 credits related to infant/toddler AND One year experience
with Infant/Toddler
• Ability to read and write commensurate with required duties.
• Ability to pass NYS physical for day care licensing requirements.
• Clearance through NYS Central Registry for Child Abuse and fingerprinting.
• NYS Driver’s License, car available to use regularly for home visits.

The New York State Education Department’s School for the Blind is seeking applicants for the position of Nurse 1.  Duties of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following:

• Assisting in establishing a behavior management plan that addresses any pertinent medical information and implementing the plan consistently;
• Assisting in the development and monitoring of individual medical records and data collection;
• Participating in Home-Residential-Health Center-School communication for program consistency;
• Nursing intervention and documentation; case finding;
• Providing supportive and/or restorative care; Providing teaching and counseling on health issues; and instructing students about their medications as well as everyday hazards in their environment;
• Administering medications;  Administering nebulizer treatments; Administering and/or disconnecting G-tube feeding on a student and providing related guidance and instruction;
• Providing first aid according to policy, procedure, and individual care plans to injured students;
• Admitting/charting ill students to the sick bay and providing nursing care; Reporting and referring ill students to the doctor’s office for evaluation and treatment;
• Participating in staff training;
• Preparing clinical and administrative reports including the Medicaid end of the month report;
• Maintaining infection control standards; and
• Functioning as a member of a treatment team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice nursing in New York State or possess a limited permit to practice nursing in New York State. Candidates with limited permits must obtain NYS licensure within one year from the date of appointment.  Candidates must have the ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting and to participate in all Health Center operations.

Special consideration will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

• At least two years of Nursing experience
• Pediatric nursing experience
• Nursing experience  working with the developmentally disabled
• Current CPR certification.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $52,552 based on annual performance advances.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:   Fingerprinting through the Department of Criminal Justice Services and a background check with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services are required for employment.
