The Syrian people are being assassinated by a despot. Though we can ill afford military involvement, I would certainly be in favor of supplying arms. Stopping just a few minutes of wasteful US government spending would probably buy enough arms for these people to successfully defend themselves.
Uh hello....may I remind people that we once provided arms and assistance to Afghanistani rebels, whom are now known as Al-Queda
