Whom in their right mind would say "No?" If, Upstate NY separated from NYC then, are tax dollars would stop being fed to the city and all its corruption.

Corruption? How dare you! The rampant and absolutely shameless Tammany Hall levels of corruption that pervade every nook and cranny of NYC are not to be spoken of, not even in quiet tones among your closest associates. It's like the Klan in the Old South: You simply don't mention it, let alone imply that it exists. You are "dangerous", "reckless", "bigoted" and all kinds of "ist"s, the nature of which are legion and proof of your backwardness.
If you continue "to bitterly cling to your religion and your guns" your enlightened betters will have to DO something about you... But first they'll have to do something about what you're clinging to. Oh, wait: They are.
