Today's Poll: Should it be legal to buy alcohol in the U.S.?

By Howard B. Owens

As Mark pointed out, this was tried @ 100 years ago, and led to the rise of murders, alcohol wars, etc.

Today, especially with the advent of the internet, any 10-year old with a computer can learn how to make beer, whiskey, wine, etc. Even in the jails and prisons, inmates continue to make 'raisin jack' and other alcoholic concoctions.

You can make it illegal to BUY, but you can't stop people from producing it. And, if you pass a law making it illegal to PRODUCE, you'll (probably) be contributing to the creation of tens-of-millions of 'criminals'.

The cat was let out of the box thousands of years ago. Now, the best you can do is try to control it.

"Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die!"

I think people forget that personal responsibility will always be the main factor in one's decision making. If you choose to drink, then you must be responsible for the potential outcomes.

This is the same for Pot, or any other substance in my opinion.

Instead of trying to limit a responsible individual's choice, what should be focused on the root cause of many of our issues: Those who are in some kind of mental health crisis that utilize substances as a way of coping instead of getting real help.

For those who commit crimes while under the influence, they should reap the consequences, plain and simple.

That said, I would like someone to show me where in recent (distant?) history, prohibiting something that people want ever turns out to be a good idea. Not to mention a time it really ever worked!
