Today's Poll: Should the government seize assets that are fruits of the crime of convicted drug dealers?

By Howard B. Owens

The key word here is *convicted*. Yes, immediately confiscate all assets that may be the direct result of illegal activity, but then wait for for the courts to adjudicate the dispersal of these assets AFTER conviction.

Yes they should. Then they should use any money confiscated to revitalize the village, town or county where the ARREST/SEIZURE was made.

the holier than thou YES voters........ when you take something that is not yours, it is called stealing.....
the last I knew, it was illegal to steal someone's property.

something my father taught me when I was a child, "Two wrongs don't make a right"

The operative word in the poll was "convicted".

The bull-cookie confiscations from people who are simply (legally or not) carrying large amounts of cash, or driving an expensive car, etc. without conviction is theft, pure and simple.

But David - should Bernie Madoff or convicted (there's that word again) inside traders be able to keep their ill-gotten gains?

"drug dealers work for their money...."

Unfriggin real. I don't know whether to laugh or simply shake my head. I REALLY hope you are being sarcastic!

"drug dealers work for their money...."

Yes, they work very, very hard. At adversely affecting the society we are in. Who are their customers? Where did their customers get the money and other assets to support their habit so the dealers could afford the possessions and have the cash when busted?

How many of our taxpayer dollars go to the dregs of society to aid them in enriching the lives of the "hard working" drug dealers? For that matter, how many of the "hard working" drug dealers are also collecting welfare?

From HARD WORKING people??

"Bernie is another issue, he took other peoples money."

How many homes were burglarized to pay your "hard working" drug dealers? ? How many robberies occurred? How many children are left hungry because of their mother's priorities?

And don't give me the "drugs should be legalized" crap. Maybe they should be. But that is entirely different from what is being discussed in this thread

PLEASE tell me you are just BS'ing and don't really believe that which you espouse here!
