Today's Poll: Are you concerned about web sites tracking you and sharing data?

By Howard B. Owens

I voted no because while I don't like it or want it, I expect it. Since I know they are going to do it, I am not concerned. If you don't want somebody to know what you are doing, don't put it on the internet.

John, I have to disagree.

I do nothing illegal, shady, or anything to be ashamed of on the 'net. I do take exception to tracking me though - its none of their business! Do any of the businesses in Batavia follow you when you leave their store to see what else you might buy?!?!

If I visit a website, it's because I am interested in their product or service, am looking for information, or am simply surfing. If its a retail site, I either buy or I don't. All the other websites, are supported by advertisers - just like The Batavian. I do my best to support those sites by using their advertisers.

If they have done a good job with site presentation and advertiser links, that should suffice. When is enough enough?

Mark this day down, I agree with John and Bea. If, you do not like being tracked, then do your business in person. Besides tracking is nothing new, it has been done for years, even before the internet and smart phones. It was just done a different way but, as technology makes advances things change. Another thing to consider is some business owners have share and/or stock in other businesses.

If, you do not like being track, you better get rid of your computers and smart phones but, it is too late to worry. FYI, businesses are not the only trackers out there. You have foreign and domestic hackers out there; who are able to get every detail they can about you.
