Photo: Big bass caught at sandwash

By Howard B. Owens

Photo and info submitted by Rob Stefani.

Rob Stefani caught this bass late this afternoon at the sandwash (Dewitt Recreation Area). He said he guessed it weighed 5 lbs. "It's definitely one of the better bass I've ever caught there," he said.  He used a night crawler and it's the first bass he's seen caught there this year. He's seen lots of trout and pike so far, he said. He did release the fish.

Pike arent in season either, saw another fisherman Wed pull one in behind TimeWarner. I got 2 nice 18 inch trout though, very delicious. All I need now is to catch a few Crappie from there, or one of the rumored walleye that they say still exsist in there. Gotta say thanks to the DEC for continuing to stock that place those trout were delicious. Even my cats who dont normally enjoy any fish scraps (besides a nice chunk of broiled haddock from ficarellas) loved them LOL.

This time of the year the big female bass are on their spawning beds and will hit anything that come close to them. Release them and they will return to their nest.
