Obviously the penalties for DWI aren't stiff enough. I've disagreed with Leandra's law from the get-go. There was no need for a "special" enhancement to DWI/DUI laws. Why is it that a DWI is only a felony if a child is in the vehicle? How is it that a child's life is worth more than mine or yours? No matter who is DWI, every vehicle they encounter has the potential to have children in it. Why isn't every DWI conviction a felony?
I'm pretty sure that we have plenty of laws to cover every offense that's encountered. For example, if you're talking on your cell phone and it causes you to weave over the lines, run a red light or sit through a green light, you're already driving recklessly. There's already a charge for the offense.
Upon conviction for DWI, your vehicle and license should be forfeited and you should do jail time, period. If you want your license back, go through the process all over again of obtaining a permit and taking a drivers test. The confiscated vehicles should be auctioned off to pay for victims assistance. Law enforcement is already budgeted and paid for by taxpayers so none of the money needs to go to them.
I'm all for being able to drink and be merry but don't do it and then get into a vehicle. With all the publicity surrounding drunk driving and seeing innocent people killed because of it, it's time to put the hammer down. Enough already with the slap on the hand. People can do more time for simple narcotics possession.

Anyone else getting sick of seeing how many people drink and drive around here? Time to be responsible people.
Statistically if I get hit by a drunk driver I will be the one who dies or is screwed up for life.
