ATV rider reportedly tries to run down deputy

By Howard B. Owens

An ATV rider on an newer model green four-wheeler reportedly tried to run down a deputy somewhere on the east side of Batavia near Route 5.

We're not sure where or how the initial call started, but there were two four-wheelers in the area and when approached by a deputy, they took off in opposite directions.

One reportedly headed straight toward a deputy.

The ATV was last seen on Seven Springs Road doing donuts.

State Police offered to send in a helicopter to assist in the search, but a deputy said, "they're long gone."

The ATV has green and black, with flared mud flaps. The rider is wearing black. Both riders were white and wearing helmets.

The riders were apparently in a wooded area on foot, before hopping on their ATVs and riding off.

I should probably assume you know that 'donuts' are dug into the surface by applying front brakes and powering the rear-end so it circles around, the tire or tires (stupid emoticons; can't type a parenthetical 's' w/o generating a smiley face) excavating a ring.

I got a negative vote for explaining (in words and pictures) what a donut/doughnut is?! Well, Billie, apparently it wasn't as sterling a definition as you judged. ...Anyway, if you ever want to experience a 'doughnut' in relative safety, drive into a vacant parking lot in the dead of winter (pick one with fair cover of snow and ice), crank the steering wheel in either direction and accelerate.
