Don't care what Howard or anyone else says, this aint even news. Just shows what a joke and how desperate the local government around here is. I mean where else do they do this. Arrest as many people as they can at major entertainment events as a money makeing scam to justify government employees jobs. Wonder how many are herded through the GCASA cash machine.........even a bigger JOKE.

Yeah Richard because people actually committing the crime isn't the issue at all, right?

It's all just a cash cow. I find it suspect how little arrests there were at the Kiss concert though...hmmmm....maybe all of the cops are fans? This is such an old, tired and truly lame argument. For someone who is such a conservative, you seem to be very generous in allowing people to have no personal responsibility, or is it do you think that stealing, fighting and underage drinking are acceptable behaviors?

Seriously lame.

In the past couple years, I've been to concerts in NY, PA, WV, IN, and OH.

Police arrest concert-goers EVERYWHERE for breaking the law.

They get away with it being the number of nonlocal people getting busted. If they started targeting local drinking events (beer tents) people would be very upset.
It's not a matter of right or wrong breaking the law is wrong thats a given. It's what group of law breakers they target.
With the number of underage drinkers they have nailed this year. I have yet to see one bust for severing someone underage. As long as everyone cashes in everyone is happy.

Aug 16, 2010, 11:36am Permalink

They don't get away with anything. They are doing what they're suppose to do. I'll agree to the "targeting" comment to a point, Bryant. It makes sense for you to go where you know the trouble will be. Actually it would be pretty stupid if they didn't.

Now, I'm sure that your not suggesting that there are local bars knowingly serving to underage drinkers, but let's say that they did. If a bar owner is caught doing that, not only are they fined a surreal amount of money, but the can have their liquor licenses pulled. Then they have no business at all. I know a lot of bar owners and they will all tell you the smae thing: It's not worth it.

For the record, there was a bar a few years back where Jackson Street Grill is now that thought it was worth it to serve to underage drinkers. They were shut down. Maybe we don't here about that locally because business owners want to stay in business.

Hey Howard why don't you do an actual concert review once in awhile, with some wicked cool photos....instead of merely up chucking the names of the people arrested. Wow man you could maybe even get some more wicked cool pictures of wasted people being arrested there. Like a whole montagee (that's french) I hate France but I bet there down with good concerts more than we are. With all your negative coverage of these events I bet folks is scart to attend. And Ward and June probalby make Beav stay in his room on concert nigts. This could be detrimental to all the local corn stands that make good coin from concert goers.

Darien Lake invests, as far as I can tell, a good deal in its own security. The venue works, from all appearances, very closely with the Genesee County Sheriff's Office on law enforcement at concerts.

My guess: It's a business decision. Live Nation has made the business determination that investing in security and enforcing laws leads to a safer atmosphere, one in which MORE people will want to attend concerts.

The people who think a rock concert is just an excuse to get rowdy and wasted are in the minority.

We've all been to enough concerts to know that the vast majority of people are there to see their favorite performers, listen to some good music, and make it home safely.

Jason, I'd love to have somebody provide coverage of local bands playing locally, but reviewing national acts at Darien Lake (or anywhere else) doesn't fit our editorial mission.

"Covering national acts doesn't fit our editorial mission" = COP OUT......... heh heh heh heh get it Cop Out at Darien Lake Concert Series. Dam I'm a gotta be the best poster on here hands down. And i LOOK GOOD TOO.

Darien also sells booze.

It's one thing to drink a little or maybe a little drugs, but it's another to get drunk and cause problems.

It's a case, as always, of the minority who can't handle drugs or drink in a mature fashion that "ruin" it for everybody else.

Even on the under-age drinking, deputies have told me that target only the most obvious cases, because they're goal is to prevent problems, not just write tickets for the sake of writing tickets.

Richard,
Hey cowboy, did you think what would happen if Darien did not invest in its security. Can you spell lawsuits?

And even if GCASA is a cash machine, are you saying the Police should not do what they are paid to do? Are you saying if you're "wasted", and driving, they should let you go because you live back here now?

Ya Know what I'm sayin................How's this Gran Pubba, why isn't Darien Lake cited for allowing underage drinking on their property. Why don't they just limit the age of the people that can attend concerts to 21. Have homeowners been cited for allowing underage drinking parties at their property even when they're not home?

Jason, the reason you are unfamiliar with the "local scene;" there is little to speak of. There was one thirty-forty years ago. Occasionally, someone will mention The Falcon Crest, Penthouse, Angel's, Devil's Rock, Cell Block A, Primitive Scene, Magoo's or The Hideaway. The remaining live music venues are The Stumblin' Inn in Elba, the Eagle in LeRoy, the Center Street Smoke House and the Willow Bend in West Batavia- occasionally Ri-Dans. The Ramble is a one-day hit or miss event. When local talent isn't competing for pay-to-plays in Buffalo and Rochester or private parties, the last resort is recording demos in a basement studio.

If there was a music scene, it would have plenty of local talent to draw on. It's not for lack of talent that Genesee County's music scene imploded. I recall in the 80s, the cable access channel had a show that gave local artists a boost in the public eye. Would TB showcase band demo videos?

Barely a drop in the bucket:

Yeah and why won't the city let Center Street have music all Summer Long. The 7-9 only on Fridays is another JOKE. The place just sits there and no ones allowed to use it except for 2 hours a week from June-August. Why does the city even own that property anyhow?

Aug 16, 2010, 4:48pm Permalink
John Roach

Richard,
As usual, you don't get it right. The "city" does not run the Jackson Square (not Center Street) music program. That is done by a private group to bring at least some people downtown.

Maybe you could get some of your bad boys you always talk about to do something there?

Aug 16, 2010, 5:06pm Permalink

All right grand puba why can't they have music there all summer long, mr know it all about all the meaningless trivial political crap in batavia.

Richard,
Nobody said you couldn't, did they?

Just step up, stop whining, and show us how they do it in Texas. Oh, that's right, you moved back here.

Aug 16, 2010, 5:31pm Permalink

Hey Jaba the word on the street is that the city won't let Center Street use that area for music. So who is on this Jackson Squares Club you reference that limits it to two hours a week for two months. And stop trying to be like me, your much better at boring mudane bs like plumbing legistlation.

Richard,
Hey Tex, Center Street is a private business. Not many private businesses can use city property for free, like a street.

Get your horsey, training wheels, and go see the Business Improvement District people (BID), but try to have something to say, no whining. Offer to run a program.

They arrange most of the entertainment downtown, including the upcoming Summer in the City this weekend.

Richard is back in Badtavia? Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
I wonder how long it will be before I get to read about him in the Police Blotter or the Hicktown TMZ Newz? Poor Howard, poor Richard. I don't even know you guys and I love you both. And no Richard, I'm not gay, except for Obama and you.

Come on John your like a weiner dog chasing his tail. First the city doesn't control the square then they do. Why does the city own and old alley? Your the wheel that knows all the small time little local power trip games. What reason does the city have to own an old run down little alley?

Aug 17, 2010, 8:15am Permalink
Richard Gahagan

Oh yeah shut up George. I cashed in on a little oil well. Moved back so I could think I was more important. Bought a big bull dozer gonna drive in circles at the end of franklin, knock down the mall, start up St. Nicks and the Elks, have concerts in a big field with no cops, impress all the yankee ladies with my twang and swagger, get my plumbers certificate, be a teacher cop and fireman, plow snow, and take aunt Bea out for pizza.
