The New York State School for the Blind in Batavia is seeking to fill the vacancy for Head of Department. Duties of this position will include, but not be limited to the direct supervision of the education program including development and implementation of student and staff schedules and appropriate placements. All duties are carried out in accordance with the policies and procedures of the NYS School for the Blind, including all policies and procedures relating to the prevention and/or reporting of abuse and neglect. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assuring that an appropriate IEP is established for all students and all mandates are fulfilled;
- Assuring that behavior plans are established and implemented consistently; • Approving educational reports and making educational recommendations to the Superintendent;
- Assuring that individual CSI Books are established and used consistently;
- Planning and conducting activities to enhance development of skills in areas of need;
- Establishing schedules for student services and assigned staff;
- Assuring Home-Residential-Health Center-School communication and program consistency;
- Assuring all required paperwork is completed;
- Assure that behavioral, health and safety standards are followed; and
- Performing other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in the human services or social services field OR an Associate’s degree in the human services or social services field and two years of full-time experience in the human services or social services field working with students or other consumers. Candidates must have the ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting of children.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates holding a Masters’ Degree in Special Education or Teaching of the Visually Impaired and who have NYS certification as a School Administrator and Supervisor OR are eligible for certification OR have experience with visually impaired populations.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Fingerprinting through the Department of Criminal Justice Services and a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services are required for employment. This is a permanent, 10 month position.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $66,615 to $79,875 (depending on hiring rate) with annual performance advances
