Thursday Sept. 17 is last day for Downtown Batavia Public Market

Due to popular demand, the Downtown Batavia Public Market has extended its season one more Thursday. The market’s last day will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17. It is centrally located at Ellicott and Center streets in downtown Batavia.
The market will be offering fresh corn, tomatoes, peaches, baked goods, cheese, flowers, honey, maple syrup and lots more. Support the downtown that supports your community.

Why two markets?
Why does Batavia have a market downtown and one at the downs? I could understand if we were a huge town that needed this - but wouldn't it be more cost effective to just have one market with more vendors? Another idea would be to have the market open on a day/time when people can actually go to it. Given that Batavia is for the most part a bedroom community meaning that most people leave Batavia during the day to go work someplace else - wouldn't it make the most sense to have the market on a day or at a time when the most people are in town - not during a weekday? If anyone could clarify this for me I'd appreciate it. I love going to markets but as I work in Rochester, like many do - I cannot go to a market held during a weekday - and in my experience it hasn't been worth going to the one downtown as the last few times I've been it consisted of about 4 vendors. There must be something that can be done. Why not just look at the times that Tops is the busiest and have the market during that time (if possible) - I am sure people would much rather buy local fresh fruits and vegetables from the market then the non-local items often sold at our supermarkets.
