A new dodgeball league is forming in Pembroke. This league is for people 18 and over looking to get some exercise and have some fun. This league will run for 7 weeks starting January 21. Play is on Saturday nights. There is room for 12 teams. If you want to play and do not have a team. Sign up and we will put you on a team. Registration is due by January 13th.

Members of the Museum Quilt Guild were invited to the "Carnival" for this year's challenge.   Twenty-three quilts by twenty-one members were presented at the January 21 meeting, and will be on display at the Richmond Memorial Library during regular hours during the month of February.  A variety of techniques and colors were used to create quilts depicting carousel horses and other rides, Mardi Gras themed quilts, and fond memories.

Visitors to the show are invited to cast their vote for a "Viewer's Choice" award.

Woolly Book Worms will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, in the Children's Room at Richmond Memorial Library.

This a book discussion group for students in third through fifth grades, accompanied by their favorite adult (feel free to bring a knitting, crocheting or another project to work on).

"The Willoughbys," by Lois Lowery, will be this month's topic.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Come out and visit the animals at the Genesee County Animal Shelter available for adoption. We have the best cats and dogs in the county! Visit our website for photos and details on all the animals available for adoption.

 

Adoption Procedures: 
 
There is a $30 non-refundable fee for all animals. If the animal is not spayed or neutered there is a $35 refundable deposit upon proof of surgery. An adoption application must be filled out at the Shelter by the person wishing to adopt the animal. Once the application has been reviewed and approved the potential adopter may visit and meet any of the animals.
 
DOGS: All dogs must be licensed BEFORE leaving the Shelter. Please note that public offices that license dogs are not open on the weekends. All dogs must leave the Shelter on a leash. Please bring a leash. 
 
CATS: All cats must leave the Shelter in a cat carrier. Please bring a cat carrier.
 
Vaccinations etc.
 
All animals older than 3 months of age are given rabies vaccine. Unless there is proof of a prior rabies vaccine, the vaccine is good for one year. All animals are given at least one dose of deworming medication. All dogs receive a parvo/distemper vaccine which is good for one year. All cats receive a feline distemper combo vaccine (good for one year) and are tested for FeLV/FIV.

Going once, going twice, SOLD! Each year St. Paul Lutheran School raises more than $80,000 to provide an affordable Christian education for 3-year-old preschool – grade 5 students in our community.

Please join St. Paul at their Annual School Benefit Auction on Saturday, Feb. 11. The event is hosted in the St. Paul Lutheran School lunchroom (church basement) at 31 Washington Ave., Batavia.

Doors open at 4 p.m. and the auctioneer begins at 5 p.m. A fantastic selection of handmade items, crafts, theme baskets, gift certificates, novelties, and more will be available.

A bake sale and concession stand will offer tasty supper options. Bring your family and friends for a fun, night out – this is an event not to be missed!

If you would enjoy taking a walk in a winter wonderland, there is one planned in the evening on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Genesee County Park.

Using snowshoes, participants will be guided through a night hike at Genesee County Park and Forest under the full moon and finish at Pavilion A for refreshments and a warm fire. Snowshoes will be provided.

Time is from 6 to 8 p.m. Preregistration is required. Call 344-1122 to make reservations. Cost is $8 per person. Dress for cold weather.

The annual benefit Cabaret is set for 7 to 10 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 11 at St. Jame's Episcopal Church. It's located at 405 E. Main St. in the City of Batavia.

The event is for adults. Cost is $20 and includes desserts and hors d' oeuvres. There will be basket raffles and entertainment by Jon Seiger and Bev Miller.

Proceeds benefit the church's restoration fund and Community Action of Orleans & Genesee. Phone 343-7798 for tickets.
