On Thursday, we published a picture of the winners of GCASA's "drug free" poster contest. Laura Russell Ricci later sent along scans of the actual winning posters.

Above is a submission by Sarah Scott, and below, Nathan Moore.

More winning posters after the jump.

Nice art work!! I especially like the restaurant, where everybody is waving their arms in the air. I think I ate there.

I think all these kids did a great job and I really feel bad for anyone trying to make something that is positive for children turn into negative comments. I think it sends the wrong message and I am surprised that adults would make it seem uncool for kids to speak out against drugs and alcohol. One of the comments did get yanked. Great Job to all the kids and don't let peer pressure change your mind, even if adults say or act like you are being uncool.

The first poster reminds me of Peter Max from the 60's, kind of a "Yellow Submarine" style. I think it's very creative. Nice job, Sarah

Actually I think its more about a self promoting so called "non-profit" social organization being allowed to indoctrinate children to perpetuate their parasitic existence.

I think all of the kids did a beautiful job on the posters. And the Sarah who submitted the poster is not on facebook. I don't think that we should make comments like that about children unless we know it is the truth. It is bad enough kids get that from their peers do adults really need to do it too? Aren't we supposed to set a good example for them....

The Sarah Scott in LeRoy is not the same Sarah Scott that submitted this poster, btw. I think they all did a great job too!

Ronald, that was Gemma who did the drawing with the "Light" theme. The GCASA poster contest is a very positive community art project. My students look forward to it each and every year. It is limited to school age kids -- K-12.

That's why I hate facebook. Some people are always looking for a gotcha. It's a sickness, facebook in general is a sickness and a huge workplace time waster. It's even worse if you are retired. Now, The Batavian is totally different. I waste time here everyday and I'm happy about it.

When I was a teenager my poster would have said: "I promise to be drug free so I can stay alive." My dad would have killed me. Like the time I painted a Red Star on my white shirt and wore it to school. I swear I had no idea it had any symbolism tied to Communist China. I just thought it looked cool. The woman in the Cafeteria was really snotty towards me and I couldn't figure out why. Sad, but true in 1969.

Facebook is annoying! And it's not right to do that to a kid! The artwork is great.
