Were you surprised to learn about meth labs being found in Genesee

My Wife and I moved back here a couple of years ago from Colorado, mostly because of the lower than average crime rate there is here. Why should we be surprised that there was a meth lab found here, actually two, but because the people here pay attention to their surrondings, and their neighborhood, they have been shut down. I loath the weather here; the high taxes; the worst drivers in the Country;, BUT my kids can play in the park, walk to the movies, and although you still have to be aware of the assorted creeps that do live around here, it's not a 24/7 situation! And to us, all the negatives I just mentioned are far outweighed by the security of a "Small Town"!!! Thanks to the individuals who looked around and called the police!

Bruce,

you have some very good points. My concerns are the same. I was not surprised that it happened but where came as a shock. It is only 4 houses away. When we bought our home on Jackson ST, it seemed like a very nice neighborhood seven years later and we are surrounded by sex offenders and now drugs.

Thanks Todd, there is a web-site www.familywatchdog.us that maps out every "Sex Offender" in your zip code. I'm sure everyone has heard of this one, but it's always good to remind people. My Daughter and her best friend know the little boy of the family with the meth lab very well, although they haven't been to that house for over a year, thank God!!! She was even a substitute teacher at Jackson, scary huh?! In our neighborhood, I have no problem calling the cops, the health inspector, or social services, if I think it's necessary.

Thanks Bruce, I am very familiar with that web site and many others, that is how I know that we are surrounded by the SOs

I appreciate the info as a reminder to all.

Two of my children go to Jackson and were also familiar with the boy and his mother.

What a shame

Ironically, my Wife and I are both "Mandated Reporters" because we hold a Professional License, but my question is; Why aren't we all??? People who mind their own business only hurt their neighborhood. You can stay alert, and not be intrusive, and that keeps everyone a little safer!

After living in Arizona and working at a county jail there, I am surprised meth is not as big here. If I was shown those mugshots without knowing the crime committed, I would have had no problem pinning it to meth. Sunken cheeks, sores from picking. It's a hard addiction to hide, and it should be easy for law enforcement to figure out the sources.
