Today's Poll: Should marijuana be legalized?

By Howard B. Owens
Chelsea O'Brien

Not to start a fight but: 19th Amendment made it legal for women to vote, 21st made alcohol legal (repealing the amendment that made it illegal).

Canadian legislation made marijuana legalized (to certain amounts), why can't we do something like that (yes, I realize their government is set up differently)?

THATS A GOOD POINT I HAVE SAYING THIS FOR YEARS IF YOU LEAGALIZE WEED THE TAX REVENUES WOULD SORE ! JUST THINK OF HOW MANY WELL KNOWN PERSONS WOULD COME OUT OF THE CLOSET? [POLITICIANS,FREINDS,FAMILY,ACTORS,ANY PERSON]
AS FAR AS GAMBILING YOU CAVE THE LOCAL CASINOS WHICH IS GOOD BUT NO MORE OF THOSE ARE NEEDED
BUT PROSTITUTION NO WAY !
THINK OF THE MONEY THAT WOULD BE GENERATED FOR SCHOOLS,ROADS,ENVIROMENT ISSUES.
JUST HAVE A TOUGHER LAW AGAINST BLACK MARKET WEED DEALERS

I would just like to be able to add it into the garden like any other herb. I think it is sinful that a plant is illegal and so do the majority of your readers in Redneckyville uh, I mean Conservative Batavia, Howard. Haha, how refreshing to agree on a political sticking point every once in awhile. Peas and carrots people, but mostly Peas Please.

it is a plant that comes from the earth just as any other plant would. no different than tabacco. a tabacco buzz is the same things as getting high.

Can't say as I have ever smoked a cigar...Yuck! I do know cigar smokers and it's no different then a cigarette to them.

Smoked a menthol cigarette? Yes. Don't recall which brand. But, it was nothing different then a non-menthol cigarette, except for the nasty taste. :o)

I'm a cigar smoker -- ummm, good -- and it's very different than cigarette.

Premium cigars are all natural -- no chemical additives. And no cigar smoker I know chain smokes them like you would a cigar. To have more than two in a row, or even two in a day, is unusual. Hell, most cigar aficionados don't have more than two a week (I've had to cut back quite a bit in the past several months -- it's a pricey hobby and good cigars are hard to get in Genesee County).

Cigars tend not to be habit forming.

There are heavy cigar smokers and such smokers face their own cancer risks, but aficionado smoking has never been proven to pose a health risk.

There are cigars that can provide a significant buzz ... strong enough that I wouldn't drive after smoking such a cigar. But those are a minority of cigars. Joya de Nicaragua maduro springs to mind as such a cigar.

I think "the buzz" you are all speeking of,from cigs and cigars, is from your veins constricting, every time you take a drag, and lack of oxygen.

Karen you are right. That's what the buzz is and lasts only a minute. But marijuana and alcohol effects are longer and much stronger.

Howard, I didn't mean to imply that you can smoke cigars like cigarettes, not unless you have a thing for getting sick. I'm also sure that there are stronger types but my point in all of this is that you can't put cigarettes into the same category as a joint or booze. Only if you mean that all can kill you, then yes, group them together. ;)

I've never understood why people have such strong feelings about what other people do and think they actually have the right to tell them what they can or can't do. I've lived a lot of life and I honestly can't find one instance where smoking pot actually hurt anyone. I can't say the same for alcohol.

Smoking pot, drinking, doing drugs, living an unhealthy life style, they're all choices. Laws don't stop anyone from doing what they want to do. I have a problem with tossing someone into jail for growing some pot in their garden. We don't toss anyone into jail for brewing their own beer or distilling their own alcohol.

The pot Nazis and their helicopters need to go the way of the scarlet letter.
