Margarita's Mexican Restaurant, 15 Jackson St., Batavia, NY: When you're looking for an authentic Mexican meal, Margarita's is the place to go. The food and atmosphere are perfect and the service is always outstanding.

T.F. Brown's, at 214 E. Main St., Batavia, NY: T.F. Brown's is a great place for a good meal, good friends and to catch up on what's going on in the sports world. "If it happens in sports, it happens at Brown's." We have a $20 gift card for $10.

Delavan's Restaurant and Tavern, 107 Evans St., Batavia, NY: To me, Delavan's is one of those restaurants where you want to eat frequently until you try everything on the menu. We have a $20 gift certificate for $10.

Kravings, Valu Plaza, W. Main Street, Batavia, NY: Recently opened, it offers soups, salads and sandwiches, fresh and flavorful; Monday through Saturday. We have $10 gift certificates for $5.

Clor's Meat Market, 4169 W. Main St. Road, Batavia, NY: For the best, most flavorful, juiciest chicken or hamburger in town, hands down, stop by Clor's. Oh, and the steaks are great, too. And the sausage. Clor's also serves lunch and dinners from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. We have a $15 gift card for $7.50.

Matty's Pizzeria, 4152 W. Main St., Batavia, NY: Matty's is another Batavia favorite for pizza and wings. Dine-in, Take-Out, or Delivery. We have a $20 gift certificate for $10.

Having never been to Kravings before today I have to say Wow. That has to be one of the best sandwiches I have had in a while. Fresh Cannolis too. Yum. Thank you.

Lori Ann, your comment about Kravings is a good segway for me. From your review I'll be trying this local sandwich shop some time in the near future. I was going to comment on my own experiences with the "deal of the day" a week ago.

I won a coupon for Delevan's. We went to this establishment for the first time last Friday night with my Batavian coupon in hand. It was such a treat! The atmosphere was fantastic -- walls were decorated with local history and artwork by local artists. The food was fantastic! I highly recommend the stuffed haddock. My mother-in-law loved it, too -- Friday night is our special night out with her. We will be regulars after experiencing this establishment for the first time.

I actually called Howard to let him know how much I enjoyed it and to thank him for the "deals of the day". Howard has hit on a local theme that we can all find common ground on -- no political battles here -- I hope any way.

We are so fortunate in Genesee County. We have some of the best restaurants, running the gambit from casual to fine dining -- and there is no comparison between our local restaurants and the chains. I have made a conscientious effort to spend my dollars at locally owned businesses as much as possible. It's a fun challenge and reviews like Lori Ann's can be a great motivator to "buy local".

Thanks for the comments. After Lorie's call, it got me thinking -- I should collect some "testimonials" from people who have used "deal of the day." I would like to hear from more people who bought a gift certificate from The Batavian and used it to discover a local business for the first time.

You know Howard that I am never for a loss of words. So far every deal of the day that I have used has been fantastic. It is a great idea to showcase the local businesses the way you are. Its a win win situation. I tell everyone about the Deal of the Day. They in turn purchase the GC from you or just go to the establishments. I hope that it is keeping more of the money local. Good idea to say the least.........

I landed on one from the Enchanted Florist. I found 2 items for Christmas gifts and a terrific birthday card. Kudos to the "deal of the day". Many times I just can't quite get there when it's posted! Thanks Howard...for all you do...
