We've received a few e-mails about "shots fired in Brockport."
The D&C reports the campus is in lockdown. WGRZ reports:
WHAM Radio in Rochester reports the gunman shot two people inside a home and then shot a Monroe County Sheriff's deputy in the ankle. They are now reporting that the gunman is in custody.
I realize there are a number of young people from Genesee County who attend college in Brockport, but because Brockport is outside of our coverage area, we have no sources for additional information.
Howard, SUNY Brockport is
Howard, SUNY Brockport is reporting shooter contained, back to normal except the immediate scene, which involves a main access route to the campus but no longer the campus itself. The incident was at a house just off-campus from the sound of it but no news sources that I've found have a block number for the area of 31 involved. As of 3PM, 13 WHAM is reporting Brockport schools remain locked down.

"The Monroe County Sheriff's Office has advised the Brockport Central School District to remain in lockdown for the safety of students and staff due to an incident in the community. No one is allowed to enter or leave campus at this time. Additional details will be posted as they become available."
13 WHAM is reporting
13 WHAM is reporting "Brockport Central schools are no longer in lockdown at this hour" as of 3:36PM, however the D&C is reporting "As of 3:30 p.m., no one is allowed to enter or leave any classrooms. All after-school activities have been canceled." It seems there is simply an abundance of confusion regarding BCSD right now.

A suspect is in custody after an afternoon shooting near campus. Police were called to 6939 Fourth Section Rd. to a report of a man firing shots from a home. County Sheriff L'Flynn said gunman was home alone during the shooting and at least 8 shots were fired from the home.
The Stylus is being told the shooter has been detained in the shooting, which brought University and Village Police, as well as Sheriff's and the Monroe County SWAT team. It is believed the shooter may have injured three people, including a Monroe County Sheriff's deputy, who was reportedly shot in the ankle. His injuries are not life-threatening.
All classes and buildings on campus were in lockdown mode until 2:13 p.m. NYS-ALERT messages have also been sent to all students registered with the system. The text message version of the alert reads simple: "Avoid Rt. 31 & Commencement Drive. Shots fired."
Students returned to class for WinterSession Monday. Students in class say the situation was broadcast over the PA system.
"It's very, very nerve-wracking and scary," junior Jess Moore texted from her winter class in Hartwell Hall.
Senior Katie Gill was in the library at 1:30, when the announcement came across.
"The librarians did lock us in, but have been escorting people in," she said. "We were told to stay inside at a safe location."
At 2:13 p.m., additional announcements were made declaring the shooter has been contained at the house on Rt. 31. The investigation is continuing and people are being asked to avoid the area.
Commencement Drive leads into campus as the main entrance. The bulk of academic buildings are on Residence Drive or Holley Street, about a mile away.
This is the third major violent act in the past year in Brockport. Frank Garcia was recently convicted of murdering two people in the parking lot of Lakeside Hospital last February. There was also a stabbing on State Street in September. Of the three events, none have been related to the college, or college students.
