Please support The Batavian, support our sponsors, support local businesses

By Howard B. Owens

Periodically, we make a post like this -- please support the sponsors of The Batavian. Without our sponsors, we cannot continue.

You'll also note, that our sponsors are locally owned businesses. When you shop or eat at a locally owned business rather than a Target/Wal-Mart or an Applebees, 47 cents on every dollar vs. 17 cents stays in the community. Local business owners also do more to support the community and are more responsive to community needs. And don't fall for the myth that the big chains are less expensive. It is rarely true.

Here is a list of our current sponsors:

If you're interested in becoming a sponsor of The Batavian, call me at 260-6970. Our goal is to help local businesses prosper.

After missing out on both "deals of the day" for Larry's Steak House,I said lets go and try them out any way. My Wife and I both had the $17.99 14 oz strip steak special. I had 2 glass,s of Cabernet with dinner. The steaks were cooked most excellently, salads, soup and wait staff were top notch. The bill was less than $50. Great food and very good value.

Brian, you couldn't be more on point. Larry's is a great addition to Main St. It reasonably priced; the food is well prepared; the staff is attentive; and, most of all, the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Exactly the right "recipe" for success.

I clicked on the link for the Holland Land Office and there are some great programs and field trips for kids this summer for almost nothing. I am definitely signing my daughter up for a bunch of them. There is a trip to the Buffalo Museum of Science, a trip Gonandagan for a tour of a Seneca Longhouse, the George Eastman House, etc.

I went down the list and I'm pleased to see how many local merchants we visited or from whom we purchased items in the past few months:

Adam Miller Toy and Bicycle

Batavia Downs Casino

Batavia Muckdogs

Holland Land Office Museum

Larry's Steakhouse

Main St. Pizza Company

Max Pies

Oliver's Candies

Roxy's Music Store

Southside Deli

Valle Jewelers

They are jewels in the Batavia Tiara.
