Mother's location goes up for sale

By Howard B. Owens

Well, I guess we could all see this coming, and within the past couple of months it seemed pretty inevitable as work crews stripped the building of pretty much all equipment and furniture, but the former Mother's Chicken-N-Fish location is for sale.

It's too bad. At one time, it was a great place to eat.

It's nice to see Michelle Schossels name in the window.

Those Mancuso for sale signs all over the city are getting very old and faded.

I'm sorry to see that Mother's didn't make it but it isn't a surprise. You can have the best food, but when it comes with the worst service, people will look elsewhere.

This is the lesson that new businesses don't seem to understand. We are told to shop locally, and restaurants are as 'local' as it gets. Almost everyone will try a new dining establishment. But, they can't rely just on the locals supporting their own, they have to provide good food with friendly and reliable service. When it doesn't come through, then the locals will move on to the next place.

I remember back thirty five years ago and a sweet young girl stating: "Arthur Treachers, yum yum." I'm sure some of you remember those times but I can't remember for the life of me what made Arthur Treacher such a big deal, except for his Fish and Chips, that were indeed yum yum.
O.k. back to 2009. Hot Dogs!

He was "the perfect butler" in many movies and TV shows.
You can read about him here, along wth a very long list of credits and 17 video clips.
