'Fix my yard' says sign on Walnut

By Howard B. Owens

The resident at 135 Walnut Street didn't want to discuss tonight the background behind this sign, but she's in a dispute with the city after Walnut was resurfaced, the front edge of her lawn was raised two or three feet. She wants a level yard again. The sign reads "Fix My Yard Right! Make it Flat Again."

UPDATE: I ran into Jason Molino at an event this morning.  He said this is a home owner issue. "It's restored to what it was before," Molino said. "We worked with her to improve the property and she doesn't seem happy with it."  Sally Kuzon was with Molino and they asked me how he street looked. I said, "It looks great."  Kuzon smiled and said, "Will you put that in, too."  So, Sally, there you go.

That looks like a legitimate complaint to me. They made someone's front yard into a mosquito breeding ground and a few dumptrucks full of dirt and a grader could make things right, pronto. There's always small claims court and "The Batavian" to plea your case. I say you win.

Did they?
Or was it like that before and somebody trying to get the city to fix their yard for free? I have heard this both ways.

I agree, let them go to court.

The lawn used to slope to the street, now it's bermed at the street creating an undrainable pond in the lawn with the first heavy rain. Definitely is worse than before.

Jason , You didn't do your homework before you stated "It's restored the what it was before" . I am no expert at ground keeping ,but come on . No way was that berm there before . I am not placing blame and or saying it should be fixed , but it is obvious that the landscape has changed .

This proprty has had water sitting on the lawn for decades. In the 1970's, a friend of mine owned that house and had the same problem. It was one of the reasons he moved.

There is one small change to the curb area, where she SOLD the land for $500 dollars (She forgot to mention that).

Let her go to court.

The area shown above, and the side street behind it, have had problems with flooding for years. Its always flooded out, nothing new. Id hope the city crew was sucessful in finally fixing the problem, along with the new road construction project. I will agree with the owner of the lot, that it was about 2 ft. higher before the construction. I believe the land owner made it that way, because of the flooding problems in the past. Who should fix it?? Who knows... Just my 2 cents.
