Elba man charged in alleged knife attack

By Howard B. Owens

An alleged knife attack that left a victim in need of more than 80 stitches on his face and hand has led to the arrest of an Elba man on an assault and weapons possession charge.

Gerardo Pineda-Sanchez, 42, of Oak Orchard Road was taken into custody by the Sheriff's Office for the alleged April 28 attack.

The victim, described as a Mexican male, was interviewed by investigators after he showed up at the UMMC emergency room. The victim was eventually transferred to ECMC where he received 65 stitches on his face and 20 on this thumb.

With the aid of ICE, the Sheriff's Office was able to identify Pineda-Sanchez as the suspect and apprehended him at his workplace without incident.

Pineda-Sanchez is being held in a federal detention facility on $10,000 bail.

I suppose that Mr. Pineda-Sanchez was racially profiled.
Or maybe the sheriff did exactly what the new AZ law is proposing. They contacted ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) just as the AZ law dictates state and local law enforcement to do. The only difference is NY doesn't have a law like the new AZ one.

I love how you assume he is a migrant. He could very well be a US citizen who happened to get in trouble. Same as every other jerk who knifes someone, he just happens to be of Hispanic decent. Someone should profile the white guy.

Well Sarah I love how you ignore the part of the story that says he is being held at the federal detention facility. If he were a U.S. citizen there would be no need to hold him at a federal facility. Last time I checked a farm in Elba is not under federal jurisdiction. I'm also sure that the county jail is not full.
The fact that I.C.E.(Immigration and Customs Enforcement) was involved is kind of another give away.
someone being you Sarah should not be so quick to judge those around you if you are not capable of separating your emotional responses from fact based responses such as mine. Your response is a thinly veiled accusation of racism on my part. I'm offended by people who are so quick to label others.
