Dog struck by hit-and-run driver on Ham Road

By Howard B. Owens

A passerby on Ham Road in Alabama found a dog that was struck by a car. The dog is still alive, but does not have tags and the owner is not around.

A Sheriff's deputy is responding.

UPDATE 1:33 p.m.: If this is the same call, a Sheriff's deputy is en route to Batavia Animal Hospital with the dog.

UPDATE 2:20 p.m.: An officer reports to dispatch that the dog was euthanized.

Don't you love it when someone hits an animal and has the nerve to keep driving? It's very thoughtful of them...

P.s.
Thank you to the person who hit and killed my cat on Prospect ave Monday morning July 26th and DIDN'T STOP. It was a great way to start the first do of vacation. Getting a phone call saying my 6 month old cat was dead. Thank you!

Very sorry you lost your cat Joe.
I have had to stop and ring some door bells before. Its not the most easy thing to do. Knowing most people think of there pets as family members. I have been kind of lucky in a way I felt worse about it than they did. Both times it was a barn cat. In the city it's kind of a different story if the pet doesn't have any tags who knows how far away from home it is. You never know what your going to get your self into banging on a strangers door pet owner or not. I would stop and look for tags and at least call the police. I am fairly sure there not going to spend much time looking for the owner if there were no tags to go on.
