Dancer reported on State Street

By Howard B. Owens

Batavia Police are being dispatched to State Street in the area of Batavia High School where a man has been observed dancing in the rain.

The subject was "last seen sashaying south on State," a dispatcher said.

The caller also reports that the man allegedly took a bottle from his pocket, took a swig and returned it to his pocket.

I wonder if it was "Dancing Derrick"...he was in Batavia on Friday in front of the T-shirt place @ Main and Harvester....Howard should get a picture next time he's in town.

Deb,
I am sure that dancing in public is in no way illegal, but because the caller made the accusation that the man took a swig out of a bottle than put it in his pocket we now have possible public intoxication which is illegal.

I hope it was just a guy enjoying a cold spring rain!

Seriously? Someone is seriously going to call this in because the guy might be drunk? Come on.

The guy was dancing down the road. Drunk or not, he isn't hurting or disturbing the peace. This is ridiculous.

Every other civil liberty seems to have been sucked away from us. When do we draw the line on freedom of expression? If he is happy and not intrusive then let him be. There are too many ways to be depressed about life to say that he cant be. Do we know if the "bottle" he supposedly had on him was filled with booze or water? Don't judge unless you wish to be held to the same standards of judgement.

To the dancing guy I say this....."Party on Dude. Enjoy the simplicity of life. If you enjoy dancing then keep up the happiness." Some of my favorite moments in life revolve around dancing.
