Batavia man admits to dealing drugs and now faces prison term

By Howard B. Owens

A lifelong Batavia resident admitted in Genesee County Court this morning that on July 17, 2009 in the parking lot at the corner of North and Bank streets, he sold a quantity of cocaine to an undercover agent.

Dyllon E. Soccio, 20, of 134 Tracy Ave., pled guilty to a single count of criminal sale of a controlled substance, 4th.

Last month Soccio pled guilty to criminal possession of marijuana.

Both felonies carry a maximum sentence of two and a half years in prison. As part of a plea deal, Soccio is eligible to serve the sentences concurrently.

He will be sentenced on Sept. 21.

Dressed nicely in faded light-colored pants and a white shirt, Soccio said little in court today except to answer Judge Robert Noonan's questions.

Soccio was charged in the 2009 sale on July 20, the same day he admitted to possessing marijuana.

The marijuana was found in his residence when it was raided June 23 by the Local Drug Enforcement Task Force. During that raid, agents also found several grams of hallucinagenic mushrooms. Charges related to the mushrooms were waived in exchange for the plea on the marijuana possession charge.

Had to look twice at your original headline: "Batavia admits to dealing drugs and now faces prison term."

Thought maybe the city council was getting creative in covering budget gaps. Or perhaps you were taking a page from the Onion.

But alas, just a simple typographical error.

Howard, if I remember right it was just a few days ago you mentioned how precious time is for you! No time to take care of all it takes to run your website... I am Dyllon Soccio's father and finally have had enough of your dedication to my son. Yes he has made some mistakes and he has accepted them and is ready to pay his debt to society. He was dressed very nice in court today! It cost his mother and I alot of money for clothes so that was uncalled for. Dyllon was the only person in the court room that was to see the judge. Our family is going through enough hardship at this time. We would appreciate if you would concentrate your efforts with other more serious matters. Maybe City Hall should be more creative!!!! Howard I enjoy your website and I,m sure I will continue too. My whole family has been raised in this town. We enjoy living here. We all make mistakes, I,m sure you made a few along the way. Enough is enough, I,m sure there is bigger news that needs to chased. By the way, what is up with the ONION?

James, I'm sorry you took offense at what I wrote. I would agree that he was dressed stylishly. I didn't mean to imply otherwise.

Other than that, I have a strong interest in your son's case for two reasons:

-- The amount of dealing he's been accused of doing is pretty substantial. I don't have the exact number of grams in front of me, but the police reported a pretty significant amount of mushrooms found in his residence, plus more than just an amount of personal use marijuana, plus the cocaine. For Batavia, that's a good bit of drug dealing.

-- Also, it's interesting that somebody of his background and apparent strong local family ties was involved in what he is accused of doing.

I'd actually like to interview him about how he got into this and why.

In my judgment, this was the biggest story of the day. I made the determination yesterday when I got the court calendar that it would likely be the biggest story of the day. There are far less relevant and significant cases that I appear in court to report on. I was certainly going to cover the sentencing of a guy who has been arrested twice for allegedly dealing drugs, plus having his residence raided by the Local Drug Enforcement Task Force.

I wish you and your family the best, but outside of maybe writing more clearly about his appearance, I'm confidant I made the right call in covering this story today.

I'm not going to side with anyone, but from the interaction I have had with Dylan he has always been caring and an all around nice guy. A lot of my friends are friends with him as well to. We all met and played XBOX together and just had a good time. It's sad that he has done some wrong and I send my strongest sympathy. I have never met him in person and he looks a lot different than I had expected but for only knowing him by voice he seemed cool. I'm sorry James, and some parts could have been worded a bit better Howard.
