Weather update: Avoid College Road at all costs

By Brian Hillabush

DO NOT DRIVE ON COLLEGE ROAD TODAY!

I cannot stress this enough. I figured I would take the trip and attempt to get a photo of the college from the road. I couldn't go any faster than 5-10 miles per hour and literally couldn't see anything.

When I got close enough to the school, there was nothing but white. So I took a photo of my car in the middle of the road. Or, at least I think it was the middle.

Thanks Mark.
Let's just say that today has been an adventure. I might have to relax (because all the games are obviously canceled) and go have some fun tonight. If I can get off the couch after the last hour I spent clearing out my driveway.

I'm done for the day. I started at 8 a.m. and was out until about 2. It was fun, I brought my laptop with me and was posting from the road. I'm very happy to home, where it's warm.

I was actually there working at GCC this morning! I was surprised to be sent home at 11am, which was when they closed the College. The decision was made around 9:00-9:30am and all employees were notified.

College Road wasn't horrible at 11:15am when I drove down it on my way home... though, there were quite a few inches accumulated. Thank goodness I drive a 4X4 Ford Explorer!

I'm glad you got home safely, Hilly! An absolutely beautiful pic!

I'm just grateful that for all the hype and horror, this turned out to be nothing remarkable. Like most of these things, it seems like the most enthusiastic predictions of calamity come from local weather forecasters, newspapers, radio stations, and whomever else benefits from people paying attention to them. Outside of schools, most businesses I visited were going about their day in a 'business-as-usual' fashion, given that its December in Western New York, and this sort of thing has been going on forever.

Hilly, yours and Philip's dedication to your profession today is only matched by the lack of sanity on both ends. :)

A job well done.
