Genesee Region/Niagara-Orleans Showdown schedule announced

By Brian Hillabush

The schedule for the Genesee Region League/Niagara-Orleans League Showdown has just been announced in a press release from Notre Dame coach and GR chairman Mike Rapone.

This is the first year for the event and it will be played on Friday, Feb. 13 and Saturday, Feb. 14 at Genesee Community College.

The Genesee Region and the Niagara – Orleans boys basketball leagues are having a pre-sectional showdown matching the 8 teams from the N-O against 8 teams from the GR. The teams were seeded by their league records as of Feb. 4. GR teams not participating are Holley, Notre dame and Wheatland-Chili because the N-O only has 8 league members. The purpose of the event is to provide athletes with the experience of playing an unfamiliar opponent at a neutral site prior to sectionals. For some players, this event will provide an opportunity they may never have because their teams wont make it to sectional semi-finals.

Fri. Feb. 13  6:30 (#4)  Newfane vs Elba

  8:00( #2)  Medina vs Kendall

fridays games will not be competitive, but sat lynd vs rh will be a good one, the next two are wins for the gr, then depending on what albion team show up turnover have been a big problem with albion but should have enough to win with a very big front line, Wilson vs Pembroke should be a good game giving the knod to pembroke leaving Akron vs O-A, Akron has a special team from all reports the front line is big and strong and the class of the field

5 wins for niagra orleans

3 wins for genesee region

to bad they couldn't have a feburay madness, and is Akrons player named Tretter having a family rivalry with the O-a Tretters shold be a fun week of basketball

I think the Oakfield/Akron game is going to be a great game. Akron is amazing from what I hear and Oakfield is having a great season. And because of the way the schedule works for Oakfield, I never seem to get to see them until late in the season. I'm really looking forward to seeing how far this team has progressed since I visited them in the preseason.

I think this tournament is great. It gives everyone a chance to see some great local talent that otherwise wouldn't be seen. Should be great games and I hope everyone comes out to support there teams and towns. Go Lancers!
