Citizens referendum to abolish New York State Government.

By Christopher Wierda

A citizen's reform group has decided that it is time to let voters decide on constitutional convention to dismantle New York State government and start over again.

The political action committee called Primary Challenge prides itself in being a non-partisan organization working to change politics as usual throughout NY State. The group is comprised of the founder, Leonard Roberto and board members spanning the gammut of party affiliations. The organization is currently seeking volunteers to assist with coordinating a state-wide vote, scheduled for May 2010. This is the boldest initiative of any group yet, and would be a historical event in the United States.

The people of New York will vote to "fire" thier state representatives across the board. The truth of the matter is, that the entire system in NY is so currupted, not even a good politician can any longer make a difference in turining this state around. Business continue closing and moving to other states, our brightest minds graduate and leave due to lack of jobs, taxes keep rising and debts continue climbing. For many, this is the only way to solve the problems residents continue to endure and ensure a future of hope in New York for our children.

Interestingly, Primary Challenge cites language drawn from the language of our founding documents, also included in most state constitutions through the country, which says that the people have the right to "abolish" thier government when it is no longer representative of them.

Primary Challenge intends to use the language to secure thier position in proposing this initiative. They are providing the tools for the people of New York to vote on starting over with the premise that; if more people vote in this election, then voted in the last Gubintorial election, thier project will have been legitimized and should be recognized as the will of The People. This would call for a voter turn-out of slightly less than 5 miilion people state-wide.

The organization intends to recruit offices throughout every county of the state and employ volunteers to help manage the campaign throughout each and every voting district. Should the reforendum pass, governance of NY State will rest on the County Executives, who will assist in drafting a new state constitution. New Offices would then be elected during the following election cycle.
