Alexander moved their overall and league record to 7-0 on the season with a 3-1 win against Elba last Wednesday at home and following that up with a 3-1 win last night home to Kendall.
In the Elba match Senior Forward had 2 goals, one in each half, while Freshman Defender Sydney Breton picked up her first varsity goal late in the game to seal the victory. Sophomore Forward Korie Leitten assisted on Pettys' first goal while Junior Midfielder Abby Shilvock assisted on the last 2 goals. Sophomore keeper Jess DeAngelo made 3 saves in goal to pick up the win.
Last night Alexander welcomed Kendall to their field and came away with a 3-1 victory. Senior Forward Julia Pettys converted passes from Freshman Midfielder Breyana Crawford and Junior Midfielder Becca Bykowski in the 1st half to stake Alexander to a 2-0 halftime lead. Shortly after halftime, with Alexander struggling to get any sort of soccer going, Kendall sent a cross into the middle of the field. Alexander nearly scored an own goal, but the ball came off the post right to a Kendall attacker who found the net to make it 2-1. Sophomore Forward Lydia Spiotta converted a Pettys pass to make the score 3-1 later on in the match. Sophomore keeper Jess DeAngelo had 4 saves in net to pick up the win.
Defenders Gabby Kwiatek (Junior), Sarah Loranty (Junior), Sydney Breton (Freshman), and Ashlee Wolf (Junior) all had strong games anchoring the back line and limiting what Kendall was able to do.
Thursday Alexander travels to Wheatland-Chili in a matchup of the leagues top 2 teams - Alexander is currently 7-0 in the league while Wheatland-Chili is 6-0-1. Game time is 6:30pm.

At Byron-Bergen Tuesday night a pair of 2-0 Genesee Region Division 1 teams squared off. The game was delayed approximately 40 minutes due to thunder after only 1:50 of the game had been played. After the break Alexander came out moving the ball well and put immediate pressure on the Bergen net. Junior Defender Gabby Kwiatek found Senior Forward Julia Pettys with a pass and Pettys beat the keeper to make it 1-0 early in the first half. Pettys would 2 more times before the half (with an assist to Junior Midfielder Maria Dominick on the last goal) to build the halftime lead to 3-0.
Senior Goalkeeper Amanda Bender made 3 fantastic stops to keep Bergen off the scoreboard in 1st half.
Alexander's bench was a bit short to start the game (only 3 active subs due to various circumstances) got a bit shorter as Sophomore Defender Eliza Vacanti went down with a knee injury with under 10 minutes to go in the 1st half.
After the half Alexander came out a bit slow to start but picked it right back up. Bergen pulled a goal back to make it 3-1 but Junior Midfielder Abby Shilvock would restore the 3 goal lead just over 10 minutes into the 2nd half as she made the score 4-1.
Bergen would again pull one back to make it 4-2 but it wouldn't take long for Alexander to have a great passing sequence that resulted in a goal by Sophomore Midfielder Lydia Spiotta (assisted by Dominick) to make it 5-2. Pettys would net her 4th goal (assisted by Shilvock) moments later to make the final score 6-2.
Senior Amanda Bender had 8 saves in goal for her 2nd win of the year. The defense and midfield played excellent games.
Alexander is now 3-0 while Bergen falls to 2-1. Alexander's Varsity team hosts Oakfield Thursday at 4:30 while the JV team hosts Oakfield Saturday at 10am.

Attica traveled to Alexander Friday afternoon to get the 2011 version of their rivalry kicked off. Attica got off to a great start jumping out to a very early 2-0 lead before the game was 8 minutes old.
The first goal saw a long ball down the left side of the field and then sent to the front of the net put into the Alexander net on an own goal and minutes later a very similar play resulted in another goal for Attica to go up 2-0. With not much going their way Alexander continue to battle.
After about 15 minutes of the game Alexander began to take control of the ball as they have been known to do and put a great deal more pressure on the Attica net. It finally paid off when Senior Forward Julia Pettys fired on home off an assist from Junior Midfielder Abby Shilvock to make the score 2-1. Attica had an opportunity to increase their lead from the penalty spot just a short time later but put the shot wide of the net.
After the half (with the score 2-1) Alexander came out a bit sluggish for the first 5 minutes and easily could have found themselves in an even bigger hole but some strong defending by Gabby Kwiatek kept the score at 2-1. Alexander began to take control of the play once again and good things started to happen. Pettys again got free behind Attica's back line and poked a goal by the goalie to make it 2-2. Shilvock would set Pettys up moments later to make it 3-2 and with about 15 minutes left in the game Shilvock found Pettys one more time and Pettys fired another home to make it 4-2.
In the 2nd half Alexander's defense stood tall lead by Juniors Kwiatek and Ashlee Wolf, Sophomore Eliza Vacanti, and Freshman Sydney Breton. Senior Amanda Bender started her first varsity game in goal and had 5 saves in net along with some great communication and direction from her position.
Alexander moves to 2-0 in the league and overall while Attica falls to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.
Alexander's next game is at Byron-Bergen Tuesday - JVs at 4:30, Varsity at 6:30.

Holley traveled to Alexander in the opening game for both teams in the 2011 season. Alexander came away with a 2-0 win thanks to goals by Junior Midfielder Abby Shilvock and Senior Forward Julia Pettys. Alexander was playing in a different formation with many starters in different positions due to various circumstances but were able to settle down and control the game as time wore on. Early on the game was a bit ragged as the revamped lineup got used to playing in the positions they were in. Alexander had a couple chances midway through the first half but was not able to convert on any.
Sophomore Korie Leitten filled in as the the goalie and had a couple nice saves in the first half to keep Holley off the board. It was Leitten's first game at any level in goal.
Inside the final minutes Shilvock hit a cross to Pettys on the back post and Pettys' header nearly found the corner but was cleared out by Holley. However Alexander got the ball right back to Shilvock who hit a shot from 22 yards that found the top left corner of the net to give Alexander a 1-0 lead just before halftime.
Alexander came out in the 2nd half and began to get more of the possession and it paid off about 15 minutes in as Shilvock found Pettys with a nice through ball inside the 18 yard box and Pettys finished with her left foot low in the right side of the goal to make the score 2-0.
Leitten continued her solid work in goal by knocking a corner kick clear later in the half to keep the score 2-0. With about 10 minutes left Holley had a cross go off the post but it was cleared out by Junior Defender Gabby Kwiatek to again keep the score at 2-0.
It was a great all around performance by the ladies from Alexander as they got were swarming on defense to the ball and applied a lot of pressure high up the field on Holley's defense and midfield and that lead to a lot of turnovers while also breaking up Holley's possession and attack before it got into Alexander's defensive 3rd. Leitten finished with 7 saves to get the win and shutout.
Starting Lineup for Alexander: Korie Leitten (10th, GK), Gabby Kwiatek (11th, D), Eliza Vacanti (10th, D), Sydney Breton (9th, D), Ashlee Wolf (11th, D), Maria Dominick (11th, M), Mary Kunze (9th, M), Abby Shilvock (11th, M), Emily Alvut (10th, M), Lydia Spiotta (10th, F), Julia Pettys (12th, F)

Here are the Genesee Region Standings up to this point (not everyone has played the same number of games):
Alexander 7-0-1 15 points
Attica 6-1 12 points
Holley 5-2 10 points
Bergen 2-5-1 5 points
Pembroke 2-5-1 5 points
Wheatland-Chili 6-0-2 14 points
Oakfield 2-4-3 7 points
Kendall 3-3 6 points
Elba 1-4-2 4 points
ND 0-8 0 points
Division 1 is still up for grabs, Attica and Holley are not out of it as both still have a game against Alexander. Division 2 is all but over as barring any major collapse by Wheatland no one can make up the ground that would be ahead of them. Alexander and Wheatland will battle for the overall GR crown (which is actually mythical as there is no actual trophy or title). With Division 1 and 2 having the same number of teams this year they all play an equal number of games.
What I think will be interesting is all-league. The league appears very top heavy this year, who makes all-league will be something to take a look at at the end of the year.
Here are the state leaders:
Julia Pettys (Alex) 11
Madison Dentino (Elba) 11
Abby Shilvock (Alex) 9
Erin Hale (OA) 8
Nicole Browe (Kend) 6
Abby Shilock (Alex) 7
Megan Schmieder (Alex) 6
Jenn Vereecken (BB) 6
Kaila Browe (Kend) 5
Michayla Marchese (Pem) 5
Taylor Vanderkooi (OA) 5
Julia Pettys (Alex) 26
Abby Shilvock (Alex) 25
Madison Dentino (Elba) 24
Erin Hale (OA) 18
Breanna Trader (Att) .606

Tuesday Alexander and Wheatland faced off in a battle of the top 2 teams in the Genesee Region to this point in the year. Wheatland got ahead 13 minutes from halftime with a goal off a corner kick and took control of the game for the final portion of the half. In the 2nd half the momentum clearly switched to Alexander's side and they held a majority of the 40 minutes of action in the Wheatland half of the field and finally cashed in as Sophomore Midfielder Rebecca Bykowski netted her first varsity goal off an assist from Sophomore Midfielder Abby Shilvock. The game would go to OT and Alexander would continue to dominate possession but was unable to find the net again and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Freshman GK Jess DeAngelo played the first 75 minutes and made 1 save, Senior GK Hannah Wilson played the final 25 and didn't have to make a save.
Thursday Alexander traveled to Kendall due to the fields at Alexander not dealing with all the rain this week and faced off against a strong Kendall squad and came away with a 5-0 win. Alexander moved its record to 4-0-1 overall and 3-0 in the Genesee Region with a 2-1 win over Byron-Bergen (1-2) Tuesday night in Bergen. Alexander jumped out to an early lead when Senior Midfielders Tessa Bigelow and Morgan Mattice both got their heads on a direct kick and Junior Forward Julia Pettys found the net (her 7th of the year) to put Alexander up 1-0. Alexander had the lead back within 10 minutes of the Bergen goal as Senior Midfielder Autumn Atkinson fired her first goal into the back of the net off a cross from Pettys midway through the 1st half. Attica jumped out to an early lead thanks to a goal on a breakaway in the 1st half and looked to be on their way to a league victory over Alexander until they were issued a red card with 21 minutes left in the game and played a player down for the final portion of the game and allowed Alexander back into it. Sophomore Midfielder Abby Shilvock scored the tying goal with 18 minutes left in the game and that score held up until overtime.

That score held up for the remainder of overtime and snuck a victory from what had looked to be a loss midway through the 2nd half.
Alexander moves to 3-0-1 overall and 2-0 in the league while Attica falls to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the league. Alexander's next game is Tuesday night in Byron-Bergen at 6:30 against the Bees in what should be another great Genesee Region Game.

In the opening game of the season the Alexander girls varsity soccer team ended regulation and overtime tied 2-2 with Arkport (the defending State Class D Champions) and fell 5-4 in the Penalty Kick Shootout after 6 kickers.
Alexander opened the scoring as Junior Forward Julia Pettys finished a rebound off Senior Midfielder Claire Hartl's shot to make the score 1-0 midway through the first half. Arkport tied the game (against the run of play) on a corner with under 10 minutes remaining in the first half to tie the game at 1.
It took only 3 minutes after halftime for Alexander to go back on top as Pettys again finished a rebound, this time from Senior Forward Megan Schmieder. Alexander looked to be on their way to victory only to have Arkport pounce on a cross that made its way across the mouth of the goal and was slid in with 57 seconds left in the game.
Through 20 minutes of overtime neither team could score. Each team sent 5 kickers out to take a PK, Alexander converted 4 of 5 (Senior Midfielder Autumn Atkinson, Senior Defender Amber Finan, Senior Defender Summer Bliss, and Sophomore Midfielder Abby Shilvock all found the net) but Arkport also converted 4 of 5 with Senior Goalkeeper Hannah Wilson making one save. Alexander missed their next kick over the net and Arkport scored their last kick (despite Wilson getting a solid hand on it) and Arkport advanced to the final against the hosts. Alexander will play Portville in the Consolation game.
Wilson made 8 saves in net while Arkports keeper made 18 which really displayed the advantage Alexander had in shots in the game.
Alexander is 0-0-1 on the season and plays Portville Saturday at 5:45pm at Kiwanis Field in Nunda.
