Genesee County Coroner
Posted by Nicole Brady on October 11, 2008 - 10:29pm
Greetings everyone! I'm new to running for a political position, but I am currently running for Genesee County Coroner. Thank you to many people who convinced me that I would be a great coroner and talked me into running this year! I have a lot of background that would certainly follow along with this position and help me be most efficient at this job. My qualifications include:
Assistant to the Wyoming County Coroner for Tissue Recoveries for many years
Monroe County Medical Examiners Office Internship
BA in Biological Science from SUNY Brockport
Completed various forensic seminars and conferences
I hope that you will consider voting for me on the Conservative line in November.
Thank you!
Nicole Brady

Good Luck! I had a long talk with Nicole and she would be perfect for the job. You have my vote.

I was born and raised here in Genesee County and I still live in Bergen where I grew up. The Bergen Swamp will always be home to me! I went to school at Byron Bergen from K to 12, earned my AAS at GCC with a major in Biology (GPA 4.0), and completed my BA at Brockport with a total GPA 3.75. Classes were mostly biological, but I also took Intro to Forensic Science, and Forensic Anthropology.
I have always been interested in pathology, biology, and anthropology, so I believe that my interests and educational background will serve me well as Coroner. Between my internship at the Monroe County ME Office, and assisting with tissue recoveries (harvesting tissue samples for disease research), I have seen (and smelled) just about everything associated with death, and my strong stomach will probably come in handy in some unfortunate cases.
Even though the Coroner position is currently an elected position, there is nothing political whatsoever associated with the job. New York State is in the process of changing this job, along with a few other non-political jobs, to be an appointed position, rather than elected. So in the mean time, I am doing what I can to get my name out and earn some votes. :-)
Thank you,
Nicole Brady

Nicole, it's great to read about your local roots.
After I promoted this to the front page last night, I started thinking -- I've never covered a coroner's race before - I wonder, what makes a good coroner?
Maybe you could tell us a little more about the job, what some of its challenges are (besides maybe some of the obvious of dealing with dead people), and why you're ready for and suited to those challenges?
For anybody interested, I did find this page on the County's site about the Coroner position.

To be honest Howard, this is my first involvement with running for coroner, so I'm not sure what challenges you are referring to. Death and all of it's forms are interesting to me, especially diseases (forensic pathology), so I believe this job is perfectly suited for me. From what I understand (someone correct me if I'm wrong) the position of coroner is to pronounce the person dead, investigate the death, and submit all necessary paperwork. The newly elected coroner would be required to take a few classes or seminars to familiarize themselves with the process. If an autopsy is warranted, then the body is sent to Monroe County as many of the surrounding counties subcontract that work to Monroe (or Erie for some areas). Autopsy assistant is another great job, but I would have to be a Monroe County resident to apply for that. Anyway... I'm just very excited about this position because I know I'd be very good. I'm smart, a fast learner, and it's something I have always been interested in.

Well, I certainly love your enthusiasm for the position. Outside of the obvious, I don't know much about the job. I imagine, guess, there's some bureaucracy involved. But in a county this size, maybe not!

I can't vote because I definitely don't know what that job demands and eventhough its gen county
I'd rather not
not to mention my prisoner status
Any Joe can vote for this position? seems very wrong

What a grim job for such a beautiful woman.
Dont think for a minute that a coroner cant advance into a political position.
I have seen your ads and pic in various papers.
I wish you the best of luck and I think that you would be perfect for the job.
Young, ambitious, and truely interested in the position.
I have seen some bad things with the treatment of bodies by previous coroners.
I hope you win Ms. Nicole Brady.

Thank you very much GeeDaveDee. I have the utmost respect for the bodies, even though the person isn't using it anymore. I know it's very important for the family and friends as well to know that the body is being treated well. It's no different than when I am helping with tissue recoveries. I have a lot of respect for the person &/or their family when I know that they are selfless and willing to donate organ samples in the pursuit to help find a cure for cancer and various diseases.

Too bad the Dem. party here in Genesee went on its local "we don't want to win" phase again and were so short sighted they refused to back her, almost giving the race away without a fight. That was a really stupid thing to do. I am voting for her, and hope she wins.

Thank you both Carol and John for your support. I really hope I win!

We are very happy to hear from you and wish both you and your opponent the best of luck in the election.
I would imagine you are running for a difficult position and are dedicated to your job if you are willing to put in for the position you are trying to get.
You will find our community is very fair, very curious and would love to hear more about you. I do not know who you are running against (note: I am the sports guy), but we would invite that person to post as well.
Please let us know more about why you are the most qualified and what you would do if elected.
Based on your first post, I would like to know what Genesee County background you have and where you currently reside. I think experience and what you know about the community you are looking to work for both matter.
Again, best of luck in the election and we look forward to hearing more about you.
