Two tots playing on Pekin Road, Elba, unsupervised

By Billie Owens

Two children believed to 3- to 5-years old, described as hispanic, were found playing on Pekin Road in Elba unattended. Sheriff's deputies are responding to the complaint.

UPDATE 8:20 p.m.: The children are now safely back home.

UPDATE 9:15 p.m.: This is the same household as the one that made the news on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 12. Tonight, the parents went out and were expected back at about 9 p.m. and left the kids with the older brother. They arrived home early and a deputy spoke with them about the latest situation.

This sounds familiar (or it could be the voices in my head - lol). Hasn't this happened before in this same area (or nearby?) Hope those kids are ok.

Without knowing intimate details (older bro's age, etc.) it's so hard to voice an opinion. I hope that these parents will be more careful. I've been made aware of similar situations with other families. I know the law is "grey" about these matters re: to age, etc., but some folks use no common sense. Hope this is the last event for this family.
