House in foreclosure, dog left behind

By Billie Owens

It's the kind of call that probably doesn't fail to get under your skin, even if you have thick skin. A Sheriff's deputy was called to 3526 Galloway Road in the Town of Batavia within the past hour to check on an emaciated dog.

The poor pooch it seems was left behind when the occupants left. The house is reportedly in foreclosure and a rep for a foreclosure agency contacted authorities about the dog, who was chained up outside, apparently without food, since he sounds to be in bad shape.

Animal control is not on duty today, so it falls to the deputy to get the animal control paddy wagon and rescue Man's Best Friend. No other details were provided.

Wanted: hero.

UPDATE Nov. 19, 1:22 p.m.: I called the animal shelter to find out more about the dog, only to learn that: "The dog was not rescued. It apparently belonged to a neighbor."

So a dog described as being without food and water, "emaciated" and tied up behind a house that is in foreclosure is actually a pet owned by the people next door, or nearby, on Galloway Road. Strange to say the least. Didn't anyone miss him or hear his cries for help? This poor thing is back home. We can only hope that's a good thing.

I've seen plenty of Animal Cops to know how this one will end. The big excuse will be "It's not our dog. Someone must have tied it up outside our house after we moved".

I agree with Laura, scum. There is no excuse to leave the dog chained up and helpless.

This really bothers me. To leave a defenseless animal behind is inexcusable. These people need to be found and charged. It's disgusting.

According to tax records, The home at 3526 Galloway Rd is owned by Michael Campbell. Either he's the scum or his renter probably is.

Where I live, its a felony.

This is so horrible! Poor thing. I hope he/or she will be ok. Thankfully the dog was rescued. Wish the people who left him/her behind could be tied up in the cold and deprived of food and water too (and NOT be rescued!)

Surprised the poor pooch is still alive after that wicked storm Monday evening....most dogs I know are terrified of thunder. Dirtbags. Plain and simple.

So sad. I hope plenty of fluids, warmth and rest with heal the dog. I look forward to an arrest in this case. God bless the person who called the cops & the vets that work to save this dog's life.

I've never understood how anyone can be so cruel to poor defenseless animals. I guarantee you that poor pooch greeted those people with a wagging tail every day just in the hopes of being loved. This makes me so sick and sad. Billie, if there's any info on the dog as far as adoption or needing someone to foster it, I have a friend that fosters dogs and finds them good loving homes.
