Five students from Genesee County graduate from Clarkson

Clarkson University awarded nearly 800 bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees to students from 31 states, 19 countries, and 59 New York state counties at its spring 2022 commencement in May. (An additional 189 students received degrees this past winter and summer.)

Taylor McKenzie earns degree from Ohio University's College of Fine Arts

Joseph Allegue of Batavia promoted to sergeant in National Guard

Major General Ray Shields, the adjutant general for the state of New York, announces the recent promotion of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their capability for additional responsibility and leadership.

Joseph Allegue from Batavia, N.Y., and assigned to Company A, 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry Regiment, received a promotion to the rank of sergeant on April 14, 2022.

Army National Guard promotions are based on overall performance, attitude, leadership ability, and development potential.

These promotions additionally recognize the best-qualified Soldiers and attract and retain the highest caliber Citizen Soldiers for a career in the New York Army National Guard.

Five Genesee County students named to Potsdam's President's List

The State University of New York at Potsdam recently named 828 students to the President's List, in recognition of their academic excellence in the Spring 2022 semester. The SUNY Potsdam students were honored for earning top marks by Officer-in-Charge Dr. Philip T. Neisser '79.

To achieve the honor of being on the President's List, each student must have satisfactorily completed 12 numerically-graded semester hours, with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

The students included:

Eric Stroud named to Cedarville Dean's List

Ana Mateos of Byron earns spot on Dean's List

Ana Mateos, of Byron, NY, was one of over 1,200 SUNY Oneonta students who earned Dean's List honors for the spring 2022 semester. Mateos is studying Environmental Sustainability.

To qualify for the Dean's List, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher while carrying a course load of 12 hours or more.

Former Batavia resident celebrates 90th birthday

DeEtta Burch, a long-time Batavia and Attica resident, celebrated her 90th birthday this week in Noblesville, Indiana, with her family.

Burch attended Warsaw High School before moving to Batavia as a young woman.

Elijah Stringham named to spring 2022 Dean's List at Stonehill College

Two local students name Presidential Scholars at Clarkson

Students have been named Presidential Scholars for the Spring 2022 semester at Clarkson University.

Colby Martin Leggo of Bergen, NY, a junior majoring in electrical engineering, was named a Presidential Scholar for the Spring 2022 semester at Clarkson University.

Jacob Perez Gangi of Elba, NY, a senior majoring in civil engineering, was named a Presidential Scholar for the Spring 2022 semester at Clarkson University.

Presidential Scholars must achieve a minimum 3.80 grade-point average and carry at least 14 credit hours.

The State University of New York at Potsdam will recognize the Class of 2022 during the College's 202nd Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 21.

During Commencement, SUNY Potsdam honors students who have either earned their degree or are eligible to graduate during that calendar year.

National Guard promotes two local residents
