I've been dying to get a police scanner because I often hear fire trucks go by me and state troopers speeding by. When browsing around on radioreference.com trying to find feeds for Genesee (which there aren't any), I saw that Batavia Fire, EMS, and Police have upgraded to a 800 mhz frequency that uses a Motorola Analog system. A scanner would need Trunk Tracking Type II smartnet to pick those up those signals and make sense of them. I guess what I am trying to say is, why would Genesee County upgrade to this before Erie or Monroe counties? They both have a lot more calls, and are bigger counties. Why?

Less units in Genessee means it was a cheaper investment than the other counties.

If you want to get a trunking scanner, contact Gerry at G&G Communications in Le Roy. He'll get you the best scanner at the best price to meet your needs. I recently bought a second scanner. I researched all the options online and then called Gerry to check with him and told him what I found, and he said, "nah, you don't want to get that ... get this ... " And I bought it through him for less than what I was looking at online, with no delivery charge -- and online, they would have charged $75 for programming, and he programmed mine for me as part of the purchase price.

I save a good deal of money and got better service going through Gerry. And he supports what he sells.

The reason, btw, he recommended the scanner he did is the county will go through another upgrade and this scanner will work with the upgraded system as well.

I got a Realistic Pro 2022 at the flea market for $40. Works great. Isn't a trunking scanner but i'm still listening to the 800 mhz frequencies and making sense of them. Does anyone know what frequency the Batavia Town FD uses? I have a bunch of frequencies but I don't think I have it.
