This Weekend, Saturday June 27th, Our Anniversary, we got a chance to see something we will probably never see in our lifetime.  We were boating with the girls on Stewarts Pond, in the foothills of the Adirondack Forest.  We were down by the Dam thats feeds the pond, with water from the Great Sacandonga Lake. There he was, in the tall pine tree, eyeing us up as we approached him. A  Bald Eagle, Majestic, and Beautiful.  He let us get pretty close, and we were in awe of his size, and that we were really seeing this. The girls High Fived each other, and Mike and I thought what a great thing to see, on our wedding anniversary. We kissed as he took off, and flew away. A few minutes later, we looked up to the top of the mountain, and there he was, soaring with his mate. What a wonderful weekend for all of us. We also watched the White Water Rafters riding down the river near Lake Laceurne.  The Adirondacks, so vast, so wild!!

There is a nesting pair along the Genesee River near Fillmore and numerous eagles can be seen on the Cattaraugus Creek between Gowanda and Versailles.

Great picture. I remember when I was station in Montana, my Dad and I drove up RTE 191 and saw 2 Golden and 1 Bald Eagle along the road feeding on some sort of prey. As we drove up on them the Bald Eagle took to flight in front of my car. I slowed down and was amazed like you on their actual size. Happy Anniversary!

Believe it or not, there are eagles in Genesee County out in the refuge in Alabama.

Thanks John. We have seen the eagles in Alabama a few times. I just have never seen them in the wilds of the mountains. Thank God they are protected. I havent seen a Golden Eagle in the wild though, only in Florida at a Birds Of Prey Show. We have heard the Great Horned Owl in the evening while camping, and last weekend we awoke to a Turkey cackling away. Our next trip will be Wanita Lake, near Watkins Glen, for the illusive Tiger Muskee. Hopefully we will catch a few. Cant wait to take pics.

Two years ago on Thanksgiving of all days, a flock of Turkeys (20 or so) landed in my parents back yard in Parma and were eating the grapes off the vine on the fence. Good thing for them we already had our bird in the oven...

I know Peter, my hubby is a hunter. He hunts Turkey, and Bow and Gun hunts Whitetails. Wild Turkey is Delicious, and it was funny when he heard him sounding off, he got excited. You should hear my gobble, its not to shabby. I hunt with him sometimes, and call them in. I also hunt deer with him, and I will use the grunt call, or rattle the horns. He bagged a Non-typical 12 point this last season. I should post the pic. I make yummy Jerky too!!

I'm not a hunter myself. I know I would be upset if I went out and killed an animal. I support hunting though as long is the animal is not wasted. I love the tools of the trade too.

But my brother is big into it. He bow fishes and hunts turkey and deer in all available seasons.
